I searched far and wide for a replacement before I opted to simply have
mine repaired. The only option I was left with was to have one custom
made. When I say the bore of the instrument is smaller I should have
used a better description. Yes the tenon socket is smaller but the entire
instrument is a good 1 or 2 mm smaller in diameter than a newer
instrument making an enlargement of the socket (without getting one
custom made....out of my price-range as a student) impossible. Overall
I'm very happy with the job my guy did. Given the depth of the crack he
glue/pinned it and then bound the barrel with carbon fiber to keep it
snugly together. Overall there is even very little cosmetic damage, ust
a thin black line from the fiber when the light hits at the right angle.
And he did it for $30 no less.
