According to information supplied by Vandoren, the strength scale is
different for V12's vs. the Vandoren Classique (figures!). The V12 2 1/2
is slightly softer than the Classique 2 1/2, the V12 3 is between a
Classique 2 1/2 and 3 , a V12 4 is equal to a Classique 3 1/2, V12 4 1/2 is
equal to a Classique 4, the V12 5 is a bit softer than a Classique 5, but
they have a V12 5+ that is stronger. So, on average, they run about 1/2
strength softer than the same-numbered blue box reed. Balancing
requirements should be no different, likely to be more affected by your own
mouthpiece and embouchure.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
