Hmm. I've started playing in a wind band recently and one of the things I
noticed (and was actually quite shocked by) was how many of the players
smoked. I mean, stupid or what?

Anyway, this got me thinking about why different musicians smoke. I came up
with the following reasons that I shared with my colleagues and it seemed to
go down well - so here goes:

String players smoke because they don't need to blow to play their
instruments, so it doesn't matter.

Woodwind players smoke because they use cigarette papers to get rid of
moisture under pads.

And brass players smoke because - well, they're brass players. ;-)
