I've been thinking about going to a curb and playing. Maybe I'll go it

Don't laugh too loudly, Rebecca. <smile>

A 15-yr old whom I know quite well and three of his friends put together
a 'trash can' routine (dance & percussion on trash cans) and took it to
the sidewalks on Friday and Saturday evenings. Some towns don't allow
sidewalk music, but in this town it is OK so long as the *quality* is
there, and so long as foot traffic isn't obstructed, and so forth. The
kids asked each restaurant's or bar's permission first. All but two of
the establishments said "yes" because it brought customers to their
front doors. One of the two establishments who said "no" changed their
mind a week later when they noticed that customers were drifting down
the street to other establishments.

It turned out that the trash can routine was of sufficient quality that
the Jay Leno show asked for a demo tape. Nothing came of that
particular tape, but the group *was* invited afterwards to do the 'warm
up' for a major tour when it performed locally. They also appeared on
the 6 o'clock news and in a public service announcement that still plays
on local televisio occasioally.

I guess my point is: if you play quality music (of whatever sort), allow
yourself to think outside the 'academic box' just a little bit.

<><> but nobody wants to lose any of their telephone/boyfriend time.
Maybe this is why I am single...

Heh! Have you considered that perhaps a young man or two at school may
be attracted to a 'star personality' on the local music scene?

Cheers,
Bill
