I must say that personally learning the guitar was one of the best things
I ever did. Not onl has it opened me up to many new worlds musically
(including moonlighting as a swing bassist) but it has greatly improved
my overall musicianship given the VERY heavy emphasis guitar playing
places on chords and scales....and especially those that are non-standard
(the Hungarian Minor Scale is a good example). I would even recommed
some guitar literature for ANY musician, guitarist or not to help expand
their horizons a little bit on these small technical points. Two great
books are from the "Guitar Grimoire" series with onefocusing specifically
on the numerous scales different guitarists utilize and another focusing
on Chords and VOicings and the many uses they can have, especially over
the different scales.
