I found myself forced to take some time off for medical reasons back in
march. Since the problems I had forced me to give up a career I found it
far too painful emotionally to play at all up until very recently. I
would never recommend taking as long a break as I did (9months plus)
since I have found my embochure is now a bit out of shape but I have
found that my hands grow far less fatigued and that my technique has
actually improved for some unknown reason. The only thing it reminds me
of is when I was trying to learn the oboe and discovered that I was
vastly improved after putting it down for a month. So I would have to
say for experience that short breaks can be beneficial, but dont go
overboard, try to keep it to a month at the most.
