My "cure" for this is to clean the bore of the upper joint thoroughly, oil it, and polish it nice and shiny. This seems to help diffuse the spread of moisture in the bore, rather than letting it go where it "wants" to go.

The theory is that moisture/dirt/"gunk" in the bore create "channels" that attractes the excess moisture and directs it to a specific area. Whether or not this totally accurate I cannot say. However, several clients have told me that this "treatment" has helped allay this problem.
