If I recall correctly, Telemann wrote for both the chalumeau and the early
clarinet. Don't ask me to name any pieces, though (I'm sure others on the
list can advise much better on this subject;-).

I have the impression (I'm willing to be corrected;-) that the early
chalumeau was used for the equivalent of lower-register clarinet whereas the
early clarinet was used mostly in its upper register (above the break),
probably for technical reasons (difficult to make both upper and lower
registers work simultaneously?), so for a while there was a genuine
coexistence of the two as distinct musical voices, before the chalumeau
finally faded out of existence.
