I've just started up again after a number of years away from playing. I had
nine years of lessons, with four seperate teachers. Only one of them even
spotted that I didn't tongue properly and he couldn't explain to me how to
do it correctly in a way that I could understand.

The problem was that I was articulating notes by controlling the air flow at
the back of my throat rather than by controlling the vibration of the reed.

Three weeks into playing again and I'm tonguing correctly (if consciously)
after having read a couple of books about the subject and concentrating on
stacato studies.
