Gary, is it possible that the sound character of the two instruments
were similar because they both represent your sound character; i.e.,
that that is how you sound, irrespective of the clarinet type,
manufacturer, etc.?

If the hypotheses offered on this list for quite some time suggest that
the sound character produced by a clarinet player is mostly influenced
by factors unrelated to the instrument, it would appear that what
happened to you is exactly what should have happened; i.e., you sounded
the same on two different clarinets.

It shouldn't be surprising.
