Personally I do not think this is an upgrade. These instruments are on a
similar level. I have owned a Selmer Signet Special since about 1961 and
when I tried an E-11 a few years ago the character of the sound reminded me
of the Selmer.

If the Selmer is really beat up and you got a great buy on a used E-11 in
excellent condition it might be worth doing. Otherwise, if cost is a major
consideration, I would suggest trying to find a used professional clarinet.
