Have you tried it or looked at it? It thought the manual was well
written. The alternate tunings that the VS1 offers are interesting, but
for a clarinet player all you need to do is turn the thing on and it is
ready to go,

I haven't tried the external jack on mine, but I imagine it is more of a
THRU type of jack, for like Guitar/Bass players. I am pretty sure the
VS1 does NOT generate a reference tone.

The VS1 is the ultimate in "geek" gear for the musician. Sure, it costs
a lot, but once you use it, you are hooked. The spinning bars are great.
I highly recommend getting Petersen's clip on mic as well. If you play
flute, it fits PERFECTLY around the head joint, and also works well with
other instruments, including clarinet.
