There is no more positive indicator of a student-grade instrument than the
word "professional" marked on it. Jean Cartier is one of many brands of
relatively inexpensive instruments that flooded the market in the 50's and
60's. I think they actually are made in France, but are strictly
middle-of-the-road. I'd stick with major brands. Repair parts are much
easier to come by.
