Both the Prestige RC and Prestige R-13 are available in the United
States. The Prestige is the "original" model of Prestige, originally
introduced circa 1976. It is possible to purchase a used Prestige for
$2100, as the individual may have considered depreciation. I purchased
my set of Prestige RCs in 1985 for approximately $4500 for the set.
When the set was stolen in January 2001, I priced out various models of
clarinets, including the Prestige RC and R-13, Buffet Festival, LeBlanc
Opus, etc. At that time, a replacement set of Prestige RC (or R-13) was
approximately $6000 for the set, with a list price of over $11,000.

IMHO, the Prestige instruments are better than the standard R-13s in
terms of wood quality, etc. However, NOT for less money. As far as
duty or sales tax, check E-Bay policies and procedures.

Subject: [kl] Buffet Prestige

There is a Buffet Prestige for sale on ebay that is listed as a Prestige
RC. Is this the Prestige we buy here in the US? The one on ebay is
listed for about $2100.00 US dollars. This seems pretty low to me. The
description says it is as good as the R13 for less money. This confuses
me about the model. Also, does any one know about duty since it would
come from Europe? Also, what happens about sales tax?

Thanks, Carol
