A good point, if I may say so.
Having heard him only on record I was very disappointed when I heard one of
England's leading players in person as the almost continuous hiss of leaking
air from his embouchure detracted greatly from the performance. I have
discovered that, with him, this is not unusual but one never hears it on
record. The basic tone and phrasing etc were as recorded.
In person Pete Fountain sounds very much as on record. As phrasing,
articulation etc play such a large part in one's impression, I think this is
not strange.
