<><> Bill - does this tuner emit a pitch if you need it to? I couldn't
tell from the Muncy catalog description.

Even their manual is clumsily written.

The tuner does not have a speaker of any sort, but it has an "audio out"
jack.

The manual (clumsiy written) isn't clear about what this jack delivers
--- noises that mean "flat' or 'sharp'? Or reference pitches? Or
whatever it hears back to your earphones? I just don't know. I don't
have the necessary cables or 'hi fi' setup to find out by actual
experiment.

In my opinion, the two principle advantages of the VS-1 are:

(1) It measures in steps of 1/10 of a cent, and therefore you see a more
prompt and more smooth change on the display as your adjust your
intonation. You don't need to wait until your intonation has moved a
full 6 cents in order to see the result. (Many tuners wait for a
change of <+ or -> 3 cents before they do anything, which means 6 cents
of total spread).

(2) It doesn't get confused easily. (Competent players probably
doesn't need this because they don't play 'confusing' tones in the first
place.)

The automatic transposition is a comfortable feature.

Cheers,
Bill
