Hi, This evening, by pure luck, I had the great pleasure of hearing Ochestra
2001 perform a program of contemporary music in the concert hall at the
Independence Seaport Museum.

I am in Philly for a week while my wife attends a conference here. I decided
to walk to the riverfront and found the museum open. Even better, admission is
free from 10am to Noon on Sunday. As I was walking around the second floor
exhibits I heard live music. I went to check it out and talked to Sophie
Labner, harpist, and Ellen Trainer, violist and found out they were rehearsing
for a 3pm concert. I suddenly had plans for the afternoon while my wife
attended meetings. I paid a mere $15 for the concert.

The concert was fantastic. "Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Opus 24 (James Agee)
by Samuel Barber (1910-1981); "Kaddish-Requiem, A secular service for the
victimms of Indochina" (1971) by Rchard Wernick (b. 1934); "Flower of the
Mountain" (James Joyce)(1985; rev. 1989) by Stephen Albert (1941-1992);
and "Night of the Four Moons" based on fragments from Frederico Garcia Lorca
(1969) by George Crumb (b. 1929).

I also attended the pre-concert discussion with George Crumb and Richard
Wernick moderated by Richard Broadhead. A very interesting afternoon.

Allison Herz played alto and bass clarinet on 3 pieces. There was no clarinet
in the Crumb piece. I really enjoyed the program and Ms. Herz was terrific.
