In my experience, there is a very significant difference between the
instruments coming in from Taiwan and the garbage imported from mainland
China. In fact, some of the Taiwanese stuff is pretty good! The fit and
finish quality is often BETTER than what comes out of US factories. But
Chinese instruments are suitable as lamp bases only.
