But it's more fun to hear it.
Any sound can be visually represented as a wave form on an oscilloscope.

Sine, square and saw-tooth wave forms all represent very specific sounds
which can be easily described by a listener. The attack and decay times of
a sound contribute to its "color". When volume, pitch, rhythm and
sequential context are combined with a specific sound source the listener
may experience a specific "mood" or "feel". Are you trying to describe the
sound within the context of a musical score or just the sound of a specific
note on a particular instrument played by on individual?

Since every individual experiences sounds from a unique and varying
perspective it seems almost futile to attempt to generalize a verbal
description of something as personal as the sound of a clarinet.

I love the sound the clarinet makes and really enjoy playing it. I started
playing the instrument a few months ago and I'm constantly amazed and
pleased when I produce what to me sounds characteristically like a
clarinet. I have yet to produce anything close to a BEAUTIFUL sequence of
notes, but I hope someday I will. and the band played on...

(just a beginner)
