Novice that I am, I'm bothered by how much **steadier** the readings are
when I use the clip-on mic (with either of my two tuners)

Obviously, reverberations and background noise will have more effect
when the tuner is 'listening' to the air space rather than to vibrations
in the instrument's body. But the stabilizing effect of the clip-on
mic is so large (with either tuner) that I wonder whether clip-on
results are meaningful? Or does the clip-on lose important data that
affects the ear of any listener whose ear isn't pressed against the
clarinet's body?
