Tony, Dan Leeson has met you. Most of us haven't. We don't know enough
about your sense of humor to share his confidence.

I have eaten dinner with Tony. Without meaning to perpetuate this
unfortunate thread, I must tell you that his manner is pleasant, he
smiles, and he willingly discussed some clarinet issues with me which
(probably) he has discussed with students many, many times before.
Tony did have a strong opinion on one pont, but he spoke it politely,
and he never seemed even remotely tempted to use a profane word, not
even after several drinks and a full evening of performing under the
spotlight.

All of us know that on-line discussion offers one-dimensional images of
the people who talk. Like many of us, I shuddered at the one line of
coarse language. But I can tell you from eating and sharing several
hours of face-to-face discussion with him that Tony is not a bad guy.

If I thought that he was coming to my part of the U.S., I would make a
point of inviting him to dinner again.

...and let us all remember about "glass houses". Once or twice, I have
used words here that I wish I hadn't.

Cheers,
Bill
