Subj: [kl] Is my taste in clarinet tone getting "darker" in my old age?
Date: Mon, 25 Nov 2002 23:55:47 -0500

About a year or more ago, Clark Fobes sold me a beautiful mouthpiece
that seems to help me produce a more "golden" tone than my Vandoren 5 RV
Lyre. I am growing to appreciate that (I call it darker) quality more &
more. I talked to Jon Manasse recently, and he is now playing a Vandoren
prototype mouthpiece that the Vandoren company made for him. He says
that it is most similar to the Vandoren M-30. I ordered one from MUNCY,
and I LOVE it, because it helps me to produce a slightly fatter, more
open tone. I will use the word "darker" for myself, whether you guys
like it or not. The mouthpieces (Clark's and Vandoren M-30) are both
slightly more open and I love them. I can use whatever words I choose,
"golden," "fatter", "darker" or whatever. You guys can argue all you
want. I am still on my way out the door, hopefully, to go teach my
students. ANNIE
