If your band director was disturbed because stray animals can carry
diseases, I must tell you that I handled a stray cat about 10 years ago.
I received a tiny scratch and thought nothing of it. About a week
later, I had a red streak (blood poisoning) running up my arm.

The doctor was able to treat it, and it disappeared after a couple of
weeks --- but your band director may truly have been looking out for
your best interest.
