Good suggestion. It should apply to singers as well, not only for tone
but for issues like "vibrato." (Some singers are taught the idea of a
constant, unchanging vibrato as a obligatory technique, which is not
only ugly but does nothing for a musical phrase.) Tony's comment sounds
like good musical common sense.
