Thanks for your thoughtful post - I think that absolutes, taken to their
logical conclusion, have the potential to remove much beauty and enjoyment
from the world. Without transcriptions, about 2/3 of the wind band music
that I play (from Broadway and Film to Richard Strauss) would be out of
bounds. One of my favorite answers to a request for a value judgment (in
this case, does transcription show disrespect for the composer) is: "It
depends"
