It seemed as though the music naturally wanted the minor 3rds to be
lower and I guess it was easy for the strings to do it so we all had to
go along with it. At the time (many of them) I wondered what was going
on but soon realized it was really the right thing to do as the effect
of the emotion of the music seemed to demand the adjustment.

Also, there were times there the 7th degree of the scale wanted to be
higher than normal and REALLY had a strong lead in to it's resolution to
the tonic.
