When I was doing full-time symphonic work for 20 years there were many
occasions where the thirds, both minor and major of the tonic chord
needed to be higher or lower from what you normally play depending upon
which key you were in; for example the Eb in a
Cm chord would be lower than a D# in a B chord. Intonation just seemed
to fall in place better if you were aware of this. The tuning of some
intervals can be different in different keys.
