One real-world example is that in Renaissance music a harpsichord might be
tuned in, say, quarter-comma meantone temperament, or in Baroque music to
Werckmeister 3 ("well", but not equal tempered), and other members of the
ensemble would want to match the harpsichord. Not much use for clarinets,
though.
