Judging by the lack of response, I assume that my previous question was
foolish; but I'm stuck with my inexperience, and I'm hoping someone will
respond.

My question is prompted by my new tuner having a large number of
temperament options --- just, Pythagorean, and so forth. These
temperaments must receive some use in the 'real world'. Otherwise
(presumably) manufacturers wouldn't build them into tuners.

I would like to know: Do directors ever instruct the group to use a
certain temperament for a certain piece? I've heard directors ask for
a "wide fifth" at a certain location, and so forth. But how about a
particular temperament for the entire composition (skills and
instruments allowing)? Is this just never done? Or does it happen?

Thank you,
Bill
