Also, here is an article by Tony Pay about articulation that I think is very
interesting, case anyone missed it in a recent post.

p.s. Speaking of tonguing, recently I had the unnerving experience of
blooding my reed after a concert involving significant staccato. I have
played on and off for forty years, and this has never happened before. Since
this past May, I have been playing about one to four hours a day . . .

I believe my staccato technique is standard; in fact, I probably don't
attack with the precision I should, all I try to do is enough to stop the
airflow. I speak "duh" or "mud". I do not jab the reed.

I think this is due to dehydration, as I live in Boulder, CO (which is
semi-arid) and drink too much coffee. My doctor said I was chronically
dehydrated. I've had other signs of dehydration. I run three humidifiers in
a relatively small apartment, and manage to get the humidity to 40% tops.

Another player in my band has cracked fingertips from the dryness. (the guy
with the band-aid).

As this phenomenon happened to anyone else?

as an aside, does anyone have a suggestion for humidifiers that do a better
job than the Vornados and Holmes models I have?
