.... the importance of our minds supplying a missing fundamental (or
perhaps the entire root of a triad, as Lelia has described on piano &
organ) is finally settling into my brain.

This may be **precisely** what my tuner is doing to me. I imagine that
I hear the correct pitch, but with a different 'tonal color'. However,
perhaps my mind is filling in the fundamental, whereas it just isn't
there and the tuner gets confused.

I am, after all, complaining about written low F on the clarinet (with
my spherical bell), which is on the lower end of the keyboard, exactly
as the paper in Deutsch's book describes. When I watch my tuner, it
does oscillate between two octaves when I use my spherical bell and low
F. Deutsch's book does mention that D1 and C2 (two different octaves)
have this tendency.

Cheers,
Bill
