Mark has already recommended Benade & Deutsch. I would add that Benade
costs only $17 in paperback and is not impossibly difficult reading.
It is written in a "user friendly" manner, and it keeps your attention
as it reveals other physical details about room acoustics and so forth.

Benade has another book (250 pages vs. 600 pages) that appears at first
glance to be a 'simpler' explanation of the same ideas, but with fewer
graphs and many acoustical topics omitted. But the fact is that
"Horns, Strings, and Harmony" contains explanations and details that do
not appear in "Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics". I highly recommend
it as a companion book.

Now Deutsch is $40+ in paperback and is filled with 'formal papers' that
use three sentences of fancy words to say what could've been said in one
phrase of conversational language. I was unable to get very far in it
myself. It is one of the bibles for this topic, but..... gird your
intellectual loins and lock your study door before you start to read it.

That is IMO and YMMV, of course.

Cheers,
Bill
