If he plays, then he's doing so afterwards, during 'post production' or
whatever it's called. For example, he changes his fingering frequently
during the final adagio. Even if the sound track is out-of-sync with
the visual part of the film, there's no place in the adagio that
requires so much fingering.

....and his embouchure !!! Nobody who actually plays would pose for
the camera with an embouchure like that.

(I suppose it will turn out that Shaloub is like Charro, actually a
first rate musician who fakes ineptitude; but you sure can't prove it
from the episode in question.)

---and they are beginning to add some dimension to Monk's character,
rather than overworking the handicaps. His final moments when he
<deleted>s with Willie Nelson are an example.
