BioMedNet released a preview of a study today and I thought that some
folks might find it interesting (the link is below). Basically, the
authors conclude that Broca's area (the same area as involved in speech
production and understanding) is also used by musicians in processing
playing and listening to music (its not the only region, BTW). They
conclude that the brain handles music as a language (hardly a surprise
to most musicians and poets, I suspect :-). I'm going to be waiting
for the full article to be published in the November issue of
_Neuroimaging_ - it appears that they also looked at neural issues
related to motor control while playing.

This requires a free log-in for accessing the preview articles (the
full articles require a library subscription that costs some bucks).
