Subj: [kl] Concerto Cut Recommendations
Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 13:59:08 -0500

Hey gang,

I decided to take out the Nielsen Concerto again -- which I played on my
senior recital, and use it as audition material for the Las Cruces
Symphony concerto competition. Not only do I have to memorize the beast,
I have to cut it down to 12 minutes -- roughly half the piece.

Since it is, of course, one long movement, I wonder how I should go about
cutting it down. Should I take one large section out of the piece and
have just one or two jumps, or should I hit all of the themes and cadenzas
at least briefly with lots of small cuts?

I will have the aid of my instructor while making this decision, but I'm
just wondering what the list would do to make it most effective as a
competition piece -- especially since I'm up against those crazy violin
and piano players! :)

Thanks for your help.
