Subj: [kl] tone hole problem
Date: Thu, 31 Oct 2002 13:27:49 -0500

I am having a great deal of trouble with "water gurgling" from the A and
G# tone holes of my R-13 (or as Bill Hausmann says, my "Arthur Teen").
I seem to have to swab every 15 minutes or so and then blot the pads
with cigarette paper. I used a strong light to examine the bore of the
upper joint, and the bore side of those tone holes appear quite ragged,
as if drilled through from the outside by an amateur carpenter, (an
exaggeration). Can the ragged inside edges of these tone holes be
patched by an instrument repair tech? Any suggestions? It is sometimes
quite frustrating to use this horn. TIA. Frank
