I don't intend this remark as word play. Let's consider the pure
physics of it:
Suppose that I play chalumeau C, and then I realize that I should be
playing low E.
Without interrupting my breath support, I add the fingers to close all
the lower holes.
I have, in fact, corrected a sonic error that began higher up the
instrument.
I could make the same argument about adding a resonance fingering, which
usually is lower down in the instrument, after I have begun a note.
