Sorry, I don't get this. Your analogy is sophistic if not snide. - - I find
this to be both intuitively satisfying and empirically true (for my small
sample).

The relative contributions of a key and a lock to latching a door is not the
same as the relative contributions of the embouchure, reed, barrel, and
instrument to a complex set of harmonics and overtones.

I wish achieving a good sound on a clarinet were as easy as opening a door.
