I was taught to slide my finger entirely off the hole, and then circle it back over the hole, ready to come down again. Kind of hard to describe - imagine a quarter sitting on edge over the tone hole, so that you'd see its face if you looked down. Your finger follows that circular path. At the instant the note speaks, you're only covering half the hole, so there's no "bump". By removing the finger completely, you're ready to replace it in the regular way, rather than having to roll it back. But, in fact, sometimes I roll into the half hole anyway - depends on what's coming next.
