I just arrived from this year's All State Honors Band from which I
discovered some new revelations. Out of a clarinet section of 16, I was the
only member who half holed (and continue to) all notes from D above the
staff and above. My section coach chastised me and urged me to stop this
"bad habit", while my teacher had grinded this into my brain several years
ago. There are occasions when I don't half hole, but more often than not, I
do. Half hole exercises are even part of my warm up. Does anyone else on
this list half hole, and if so, how often do you apply it?
