Subj: [kl] Register Tube Crud
Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 12:18:35 -0500

The recent exchange between Tony Pay and others about cleaning the register
tube to improve a fuzzy throat Bb prompted me to clean the tubes on both my
Bb and A. The A had seemed a bit stuffy, but I hadn't thought of it as
a problem. With the A, I found no visible crud or fiber removed, but the
horn was clearly less stuffy.

With the Bb, I got a tiny pile of particulate "crud" and an improvement in
overall sound. Again, I hadn't realized there was a problem.

I guess the moral of the story is that cleaning the register tube should be
part of routine maintenance.
