I don't know which opera, in fact. I don't even know why I said it in
Italian -- "Courage, mon brave!", or even just, "Go for it!" would have
done as well, I suppose.
Perhaps it was that I *do* remember an anecdote concerning a conductor
trying to start an opera in Italy. Three or four times he raised his
baton -- and then lowered it again, because the audience was *still*
making too much noise.
Finally, someone in the front row of the stalls whispered,
"Coraggio, Maestro!"
