Many cracks can be repaired. Basically the repairman pours or forces
epoxy resin into the crack and then closes the crack as much as possible
with a small screw or two (after drilling a starter hole for the screw).

My clarinet had cracked at the register tube, just as your instrument
has, and it had been repaired ("pinned" is the name for this repair)
before I bought it. Two screws were required in my case. I like this
particular instrument better than any of the new clarinets I tried at a
ClarinetFest. So after I returned from the festival, I bought the
pinned clarinet and I've never regetted it.

(I was unhappier than I was willing to admit when the Bb problem arose.
It's a big relief to have found a simple cure for the problem.
Tomorrow, there will be a couple of pipe cleaners and a small
screwdriver in my brief case, for sure.)

Cheers,
Bill
