Philly.

He didn't just WIN it. he EARNED it. He never did tell me how he got the
char out of the bell, after a particularly incendiary concert ay ClarFest.

So a youngster goes to school being impressed with the sounds and
versatility of an Eddie Daniels, Ken Peplowsky, etc, and chooses to play a
small. very portable instrument with a lot of range, which is utilized in a
number of genres. When he/she starts to show some accomplishment, a baritone
sax becomes an unrefusable offer. ISN'T THAT CALLED BAIT AND SWITCH?
Certainly Larry Combs did a beautiful solo during the Ravel Bolero on the
soprano sax. at the concert given by the CSO at Carnegie Hall, broadcast on
PBS. I shudder to think when Morales gets to Phillly, they say, "By the
way, we're doing a gig at the airport when the President arrives. How lucky,
you get to play bary." I don't doubt that he could not only do it. but do
it well.
