Rebecca,
When I was in the 59TH Army Band I played a Bb soprano clarinet, except for
ONE parade. Just why there was no bass range instrument, I can't remember. I
was volunteered to march with a baritone sax. At the time I was 5'10'' and
super portly. In the past 37 years both the height and the waste are
reduced. Unless the Bari is one passion, and pumping iron is the other,
there is neither shame, nor shirking an assignment if it hurts you. Just how
dedicated should one be to self flagellation? The philosophy of a
bandmaster who refuses to understand this must be called to question.
To paraphrase "Teenhood shouldn't hurt."
