Subj: [kl] White-Out edit needed on Couperin printout
Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2002 08:48:31 -0400

Forgot to mention this before: Sorry, but people who print out my Couperin
arrangement should white out the first tie in the second repeat (the tie at
the beginning of measure 10), in all the parts except the contrabass.
Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do on my end until the next upgrade of
the Sibelius music processor.

Because of a known bug-let in the program, tying a note from the first ending
causes the tie to extend automatically into the second ending, whether you
want it there or not: The program "sees" the second repeat as the next
measure after the first repeat. Erasing the tie that doesn't belong in the
second ending automatically removes it from the first ending. In other
words, there is no tie from the last note of the last measure before the
repeats, but a tie mysteriously appears before the first note at the
beginning of the second repeat in measure 10. The bad tie doesn't appear in
the contrabass part because the contrabass didn't have a tie at the end of
the first repeat.

Since that first ending tie is definitely necessary and the bad tie can't do
too much harm, I left the tie in. (At best, people would recognize a
printing error and ignore it; at worst, it would be played as a slur, since
in each part, fortunately, it's a different note from the one ending measure
8.) Then I forgot all about this glitch, because it's inaudible in the audio
playback: the other half of the programming bug-let is that, conveniently in
this case and inconveniently in other cases, any tie into the second ending
fails to play back, even in scores where it belongs!

Anyway, just white it out. Sorry about that!

Lelia
