For those of us in the United States, grisoft (http://www.grisoft.com) will
let you download their basic version for free. It works fine for this sort
of thing, and the price is right - there is no excuse not to run an
anti-virus program on your windows box.

However, I run many mailing lists on my machines using Majordomo2, some for
free, a couple for small fees. I filter them all (and this one as well)
through a program I wrote called "demime"
(http://scifi.squawk.com/demime.html). It usually runs under Unix, but you
can run it under Windows if you install the Cygwin package. (No, I have
no idea how to interface it with your Windows mail package).

It strips all postings back to plain text, automatically removing (or
rendering) html, formatting, attachments, inline uuencoded sections, and
the like. This allows the Mailing list editor to rest assured that viruses
can't spread via the mailing list.

And, if you can install it as a filter on your incoming mail using
something like procmail or maildrop, it will insure that you cannot get a
virus --- no attachments, no virus.

Anyway, I recommend it for mailing list filtering.
