Now you know why there are thin and narrow necked guitars - the thumb
"wraps around" the neck for positioning on the E or E/A strings.
The "wraparound" thumb tricks are virtually impossible on classical
guitar - the neck is purposely wide.
However, I sat in with Manitas del Plata once and watched him lay his
guitar flat on his lap and use his left hand for fretting _and_ picking -
held completely on top of the guitar so his thumb was free to pick up
another 20% of the work.
He must have been friends with Paganini's "friend" ;^)
