I've said this once already, but the Internet is truly miraculous.
Years ago, I participated in a simulation of Contact between alien
species, and part of my assignment was to 'design' a solar sail that
would hold a space ship in L3 orbit. What would be a reasonable
estimate for the solar sail's size? On the assumption that many
engineers read science fiction, I broadcast a "Help" message on one of
the science fiction sites.
I received a reply about three hours later. It was from an
astrophysicist whose students were *actually building* a similar solar
sail for an unmanned satellite as part of a NASA-sponsored project!
Where else but the Internet?
Cheers and thanks again,
Bill
