In my town, the local rock-and-roll venue appears to be thinking about
audience safety nowadays, as well as performer safety --- or perhaps
they're beginning to think about protection against law suits.

The last time I took my daughter and friend to a rock concert (it's
outdoors with 10-20 ft tall speakers), the usher offered us earplugs.
I suppose this is an example of the tobacco company approach.... If we
warn you and offer you ear plugs, then it's your fault if your hearing
is damaged.
